Celebrating Canada Through our Rocks and Minerals
The Port Moody Rock and Gem Club hosted a special show in October of 2017, celebrating Canada's 150th anniversary through stone. 150 different rocks, minerals, and fossils from across the country were on display, highlighting the importance of Canada's rock and mineral resources to paleontologists, prospectors, and lapidary artists.
As a partner publication to this special display, a brochure containing the list of 150 rocks and accompanying photos and stories was designed and printed. The write ups, photos, and design were put together by club members on a voluntary basis, while the printing and certain specimen purchases were compliments of funding from the Canadian Geological Foundation. We wish to also thank our external friends, David Joyce and Sheila Stenzel of MineralsEd for their support and assistance with this project, in addition to the many organizations, individuals, and mining companies that provided specimens for the display.
The brochures are accordion style, and measure 37" x 9" when folded out. They are printed in full colour and are laminated. Show guests received a complimentary copy, and our club is in the process of distributing the remaining copies before June 30, 2017.
We are monitoring the demand for these brochures and will consider making another print run if there is interest.
