Workshop

I'm interested in attending a workshop to see if it is something I'd like to do. Do I need to join the club?

You may attend two observation-only workshop sessions before making a decision as to whether you'd like to join the club. If you decide to join, you will need to pay a membership fee. After joining you will be asked to sign a waiver. Your first two visits to our workshop after joining are exempt from the $1.00 drop in fee.

Can I attend the workshop at any time?

If you are a member in Good Standing of at least 8 years of age and have signed our waiver you may access the lapidary workshop during the weekly sessions.

Where is the workshop located and what hours are the classes scheduled for?

See our section on our workshop.

What kind of equipment can I use at your workshop?

Members have access to silicon carbide and diamond grinding/polishing wheels in addition to trim and slab saws.

What kind of stones can I make at your workshops?

Our workshops are focused on creating cabochons. You are also welcome to use the workshops for other stone related projects or ideas, given the approval of the workshop supervisor.

What do I need to bring to the workshop?

To start, just yourself and a willingness to learn. More seasoned members will bring their own slabs and rocks (which can be purchased from local rock shops or found in nature) and basic accessories such as dop sticks and templates.

Is there a fee?

Yes, all workshop users must pay a $2.00 drop in fee. Honourary members are exempt from the fee. New members are also exempt from the fee during their first two workshop sessions.

Can children participate in the workshop?

All members under the age of 18 are considered Junior Members. A Junior Member is either sponsored by the adults within a Family Membership, or by an adult club member in Good Standing. Junior Members must be 8 years of age to access the workshop. Junior Members between the ages of 8 and 12 must be supervised at all times while using the workshop by their sponsor.
