Award Winning Tourmaline Heads to Smithsonian Date Posted: March 5, 2013The Smithsonian museum in Washington is adding a 14.24-carat Nigerian red tourmaline cut by Past President and Port Moody resident Lisa Elser to its permanent collection. Cut in a design created by Tom Schlegel, the tourmaline was presented to Jeffrey Post, curator of the Smithsonian’s National Gem and Mineral Collection, during the 2013 American Gem Trade Association’s (AGTA) GemFair in Tucson in February. The tourmaline was a winner in last year’s AGTA Spectrum Awards. |
